S1E11: The Picture of Politeness (Japanese Etiquette)

Manners make the people, and the people make the country. The Japanese are famously known for their politeness, and we have their highly-valued customs to thank for that.

In this episode of Nihongo Master podcast, we talk about Japanese etiquette!

Manners make the people, and the people make the country.

Every country has their own set of unspoken customs and rules, and it’s undeniable that there are just some things you can do in one part of the world which are considered taboo in another.

Podcast host Azra says, “The Japanese are famously known for their politeness, and we have their highly-valued customs to thank for that.”

With such a broad topic, we’ll summarise it to four sections: speech, business, dining and daily.

In each one, we’ll look at two do’s and two don’ts, along with various common situations that you might encounter, whether you’re on a holiday trip or living your new life in Japan.
